IOG AWARD FOR BATH RUGBY CLUB

BEST PUBLIC SECTOR SPORTS GROUND OF THE YEAR
Bath Rugby Club won the Best Public Sector Sports Ground of the Year Award at the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) Industry Awards in a glittering Oscar-style ceremony at the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff. The award was sponsored by Vitax Supaturf.

IOG

The ground is home to Bath Rugby Club and in the summer is used by Somerset County Cricket club. Owned by the local council, it is also used to host other events including a half marathon, summer fairs and firework displays.

The Award was presented by Mike King, Sales Manager of Vitax Supaturf, to Bath's Groundsman Darren Ball, in front of an audience of almost 300 of the UK's and Europe's leading ground care experts as well as dignitaries from the governing bodies of sport and influential sports administrators such as Sport England CEO Jennie Price.

The Award was judged by an independent panel on criteria that included effective use of resources, budgetary control, presentation and housekeeping standards, as well as environmental considerations.

Hosted by talkSPORT Radio personality Mark Saggers, the IOG Industry Awards 2010 acknowledged the high standards achieved by volunteer and professional ground care staff from grass roots to professional stadia level.

DEMO DAY AT THE SWALEC STADIUM

IOG

Thanks to the good offices of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, Vitax Supaturf was able to make the most of the attendance at the IOG Awards event by holding a Demonstration Day at the SWALEC Stadium on the day after the awards ceremony.

Star of the show, which was attended by delegates from the previous day's events and by specially invited guests, was undoubtedly the new Briteliner Arrow transfer wheel line marker.

IOG

The new machine made a major impression on all the visitors and many enjoyed the hands-on experience and marvelled at the simplicity of creating perfect circles and arrow straight lines using the new 'Arrow'.

Two visitors from Portugal were so impressed they requested the urgent dispatch of a demonstration machine they could take to show the grounds staff at Sporting Lisbon and a visitor from the Danish National Stadium bought one of the machines on-the-spot.

Another new machine that attracted considerable attention was Supaturf's new Supamarker which has been developed to make the marking of hard surfaces using aerosol marking liquids easier, more accurate and more efficient.

And, as the first flakes of the winter snow fell on Cardiff that afternoon, the Vitax range of equipment and products developed to cope with icy conditions, including Ice Free, the alternative to salt, the SB40SS salt spreader and the new Vitax Multipurpose Scraper also proved to be of interest to visitors.

Other Supaturf line marking machines, including the Xcel, TLS and TXE, were on show together with the full range of line marking liquids, as were the EvenSprey 250 and 300 pedestrian spray machine.

"The IOG event was a huge success and being able to hold the demonstration day immediately after it was the icing on the cake," said Mike King, Sales Manager for Vitax Supaturf. "We are very grateful to Keith Exton, the chief groundsman at the SWALEC Stadium for allowing us to stage it."

A free draw was held for all the visitors, with a Briteliner Arrow as the prize and the winner was Howard Purnell from Bridgend County Borough Council.

Notice to Distributors

In a landmark ruling dated 12th January 2011 the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa upheld complaints lodged by VITAX SUPATURF of misleading and dishonest advertisements published by Dura Paints on their website and other printed media.

The ASA rejected Dura's claim to be "the market leader" citing Dura to be in breach of Clause 4.1 of the Advertising Code.

The Directorate also ruled that the claims made by Dura that its product is "100% South African made" were dishonest and misleading.

Under the terms of an undertaking given by Dura to the ASA, Dura must immediately withdraw its misleading claims that its products are used " in every leading sports facility across the globe", and are "internationally patented".

In terms of the above all offensive advertisements have to be removed within 14 days of the date of the ruling – ie. effective 26th January 2011.

Distributors and their personnel are requested to be vigilant and to bring any future transgression of the above ruling to our notice immediately.

Supaturf South Africa Holds Training Course For Durban Municipality Parks & Recreation Staff

Training

Supaturf South Africa held a training course on the correct use and maintenance of Supaturf Linemarking systems for the Ethekwini Municipality (Durban Municipality) Parks and Recreation staff on Wednesday 15 September. Attendance was beyond our wildest expectations as more than 100 staff members turned up for the event.

Ethekwini Municipality places huge emphasis on environmental issues and this was the thrust of the presentation. The importance of correct procedures in mixing Supaturf Linemarking liquids, the safe priming of the marking machine prior to commencing the actual marking as well as the collection of unused liquids after completion of the job was demonstrated.

The next phase of the course was devoted to basic machine maintenance and cleanliness as well as practical illustrations and exhibits of the results of using products other than Supaturf Marking liquids. It was rewarding to see the interest shown in this particular aspect of the course. The general comment heard was that the staff were not fully aware of the implications of using incorrect marking liquids and the costs involved in repairing machines that are not properly maintained or damaged as a result of using the wrong product.

Training

The final phase was devoted to a short demonstration of setting out and marking a pitch using the TLS Mk11 and Briteliner marking machines. This drew more interest than the earlier part of the course and there was a scramble from many of the staff for the opportunity to try out the machines themselves. This took almost an hour to complete but it was a golden opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with the various supervisors and area managers present.

Supaturf South Africa is devoted to providing this type of service to both present and potential clients throughout South Africa and invites anyone wishing to undergo a similar course to contact us. We will be happy to arrange something in your area.

Supaturf scores in the Currie Cup

The Currie Cup is South Africa's Premier Rugby event and Supaturf South Africa was very proud to have been appointed the sole supplier of line marking liquids for the final held at the ABSA Stadium in Durban at the end of October which saw Natal Sharks beat Western Province 30 – 10.

In addition to the formal white field markings, Supaturf liquids were also used to create the colourful branding on the pitch and the distinctive black and white checker board effect in the in-goal area.

Supaturf line marking liquids were also used for both Currie Cup semi-finals held in Durban and Cape Town.

Training Workshops for the Education Sector

A COMMITMENT TO SERVICE AND TRAINING
Supaturf South Africa has embarked on a campaign to provide schools and colleges with a greater understanding of technology of turf marking and is holding open days at various venues around South Africa. Visitors will be shown the range of Supaturf Line Marking Machines, accessories and Marking Liquids. The technical aspects of turf marking and how the improper use of marking liquids can have a negative impact on the ecology will be discussed in depth. The marking machines will be demonstrated using Supastadia and Supastadia Eco Marking Liquids and the benefits of using Supastadia Eco will be explained in detail. These marking liquids were used at some of the World Cup Stadia as well as at various practice venues during the 2010 Soccer World Cup Supaturf South Africa supplies and exactly the same product to even the smallest user in South Africa. In addition to the Open Days, Supaturf South Africa will be holding regular training workshops for current as well as potential customers. These will be held at various throughout South Africa. It has been established that there is an urgent need to train staff responsible for marking sports fields. At a training workshop held in Durban recently, it was discovered that operators who had been marking pitches for many years had developed some bad practices and some of the basic essentials of line marking had fallen by the wayside.
In many instances these same operators were teaching new employees how to mark pitches and so the bad practices continue.. The workshops will provide correct training on how to mix the liquids properly, how to set out pitches, mark the field and, on completion, how to clean their machine and prepare it for use the next time. Basic maintenance of the Marking Machines will also form part of the training workshop. Trainees will, on successful completion of the training course be issued with a certificate confirming their competence in linemarking and machine care.

EVERGREEN TURF DAY - Tuesday 07 September 2010

Evergreen 01

Evergreen Turf, one of the largest growers of turf in South Africa, and a major supplier to many of the stadia that hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup, hosted their annual Turf Day on 7th September 2010. Many of the larger turf equipment suppliers exhibited their products to companies and individuals allied to the turf industry, and this year the show attracted more than 650 visitors.

Reapers in Johannesburg, a sub-distributor for Supaturf South Africa, were delighted to attend the show. In conjunction with Supaturf South Africa, Reapers set out an extensive display of all the Supaturf Line Marking products available in South Africa. The stand was by far the most colourful exhibit at the show and great interest was shown in the display.

Evergreen 02 Evergreen 03

The Reapers Logo was painted at the entrance to the stand using the Supaturf Stadia Colour Liquid and an athletics marker was used to paint a short run of an athletics track using Supastadia Eco. Visitors to the Reapers stand were highly impressed with the quality of line produced by the Supastadia Eco.

The overriding message from visitors to the show was that they expected a high standard of consistent service from their suppliers. Supaturf South Africa, with its extensive network, is well placed to provide such service and in addition can offer after sales advice and practical tips and demonstrations to all customers for all its line marking machines and liquids, with spare parts available as required.

Supaturf South Africa Open Days

Pieter

Supaturf South Africa held two successful Open Days for its customers in association with Reapers (Pty) Ltd, its distributor for Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg.

The Johannesburg Open Day was held on 20 April 2010 at the Municipal Cricket Ground at Brakpan, located in the Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Area to the east of Johannesburg. The Pietermaritzburg Open Day was held at Grace College in Hilton.

The open days provided an opportunity for both current and prospective customers to learn about the technology of turf marking and the composition of line marking liquids.

Pieter

Russell Gibbens, Managing Director of Supaturf South Africa, was on hand to show customers how to use Supaturf products to mark accurate and superior lines. He also outlined the problems, such as potential damage to the turf surface, which can occur if inferior products are used in Supaturf machines.. "Our customers welcomed the opportunity to learn more about line marking and to gain useful practical tips," said Russell.

Building on the success of these events, Supaturf South Africa plans to make Open Days a regular feature nationwide. Details of its next Open Day will be published on this website.

LEGALLY BINDING AGREEMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Vitax Limited, based in the United Kingdom, is the official holder of the registered trademark SUPATURF.

Vitax had a longstanding arrangement with Dura Paints CC in South Africa, under which Dura imported the Supaturf TXE and TLS line marking machines and manufactured, under licence, the Supaturf range of line marking liquids.

In July, 2008 Dura unilaterally severed its relationship with Vitax and stopped ordering TXE and TLS markers, spares and accessories. However, Dura continued to use the trademarks SUPATURF, SUPASTADIA and STADIA to market its own line marking liquids. Vitax has now secured from Dura Paints CC a legally binding undertaking to cease to use any Vitax trademark, including SUPATURF, SUPASTADIA and STADIA and not to ‘pass-off’ any Vitax products.

The official importer and distributor in South Africa of genuine SUPATURF products is now Supaturf South Africa CC, with its head office in Durban.

Supaturf South Africa CC is pleased to announce that the ever popular and reliable TXE and TLS ranges of line marking machines, together with spares and accessories, are now fully available in South Africa.

Also available from Supaturf South Africa CC are the genuine SUPATURF line marking liquids – SUPASTADIA AND STADIA. These are now imported directly from Vitax in the United Kingdom to ensure the highest quality. The liquids are now bottled in new 12.5 litre size containers which feature new labelling.
